While television critics have lauded the bad behavior of people literally killing people in the most profane and evil ways, millennials with daddy issues or middle-aged upper-class sophisticates engaging in bad behavior has never been tolerated by audiences.

Fun Mom Dinner

What I most want to get across in this review is that I felt that the story contained real truths about lives that are often diminished by society at large. Between the life or death madcap adventures and evasion of the police, there are real moments of mom angst and frustration that come across as nakedly real.

The Hollars

  Heart is an undervalued commodity in filmmaking. Big films try to sneak it in, like they do humor and romance, but it always comes off as sloppy and insincere. In John Krasinski’s second directorial effort The Hollars, heart is the base of this small yet thoughtful indie.

Dear White People

The character of Sam was well played in the film by Tessa Thompson but Logan Browning was born to play this role. Not only is Sam a smart, passionate leader and activist, but she also has her own fears and doubts about the state of her relationships.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn got his start contributing to films from Troma, the mischievous powerhouse studio that brought us such films as The Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet. From those humble beginnings Gunn has created a filmography that relies on the weird, gross, and extremely dark aspects of life as well as a good monster.

Powerless

Here’s the premise: In a world of superheroes and villains, ordinary citizens are constantly subjected to dangerous situations and transgressions. Hudgens character, Emily, is in charge of a group in R&D for a security company that protects these citizens from attacks. Right!?!?!?

Great News

I literally busted out laughing multiple times during the pilot as well as the second episode entitled “Bear Attack.” The humor is both weird and observational via the mother-daughter relationship.
