What I most want to get across in this review is that I felt that the story contained real truths about lives that are often diminished by society at large. Between the life or death madcap adventures and evasion of the police, there are real moments of mom angst and frustration that come across as nakedly real. The film was written by Julie Yaeger Rudd and directed by Alethea Jones, two women who obviously are over their families’ shit. Starring the foursome of Toni Colette (Miss You Already), Katie Aselton (Book Club), Brooke Everett (Little Evil), and Molly Shannon (The Little Hours) as school moms out on the town, this indie comedy proves to have some heart under its nursing bra.

While I would say that some moments are strangely over the top, and some of the characters’ thought processes leave much to be desired, there weren’t many of those moments. Most of the film relied on small moments, relating to remarkable truths of what it is to be a mother, partner, wife, co-worker, and friend. The side story with Adam Scott (Little Evil) and Rob Huebel (The House) was really very entertaining, and provided both great moments of comedy and clarity, an especially difficult feat to accomplish when your runtime is only 81 minutes.

While I didn’t think this was an uproariously funny movie, or one that provided any new insight into the state of modern relationships, I did find it enjoyable and thoughtful in scope. I would recommend this for people who are fans of the cast’s work, or who just love watching films about moms getting theirs and not taking guff.
