My Current Obsession: Marc Maron

My current obsession is a man that has been technically famous since the nineties, and has been known and successful for some fifteen years as a stand-up and radio host. Of course I didn’t come to know about Marc Maron through his radio hosting gigs years ago, or even his podcast WTF with Marc Maron.

The History of Made-for-Adults Animated Films

With the recent swarm of adult animated, stop-motion, and illustrated adult cartoon films, it feels like there are more animated films made for adults than children. Recent films in this genre include “Hell and Back,” about a young boy being saved from the throes of Hell by his friends, and the unreal parody “Sausage Party,” which released its trailer recently.

My Era of Must-See TV

To many people the golden age of television has come and gone multiple times. For NBC the golden age was the nineties, and the must-see event was their Thursday night block. Since the release of the fourth film many have heralded it as the beginning of an era of change in the franchise, and that these films are good again.

The Importance Behind "The Muppets."

During my childhood The Muppets were still everywhere. The TV show “Muppet Babies” ran from 1984-1991, and reruns played on Nickelodeon every day. Three Muppet movies were made in the nineties, the last of which, “Muppets from Space,” was a box office bust and led to a long drought for the franchise.

Difficult People Makes Difficult Choices

Hulu has decided to dole these episodes out one at a time, instead of in complete binge watching glory, like its competitor Netflix. Of the four episodes that have already aired, there have been some choice moments. Julie’s mother, played by the amazing Andrea Martin, steals the show on more than one occasion.

Netflix Has Gotten Wet and Hot

Wain's great triumph, and his first directorial film, was “Wet Hot American Summer,” a parody of summer camp movies like “Meatballs,” and “Indian Summer.” What Wain understood was that to have a true homage you have to respect and understand the source material.

Why the Bechdel Test is Problematic.

The Bechdel Test is anything but a bad thing for films. Realizing that a film does not pass this test is important in understanding filmmaking in 2015. Sadly, the test has not been reworked in the past thirty years, and therein lays an important and complex problem.
